From Office Park to Park Living
MV+A worked with Elm Street Development for the design and entitlement of a 104-unit luxury condo building in Mclean Virginia. The project, on the site of an existing office park, also includes a new signature open space in accordance with the comprehensive plan. The design skillfully breaks down its massing to better interface with single family neighbors and improves vehicular circulation into the site. MV+A led the team through Fairfax County’s Conceptual Development Plan Process and Final Development Plan Process with a unanimous approval.
In offering his comments, Planning Commission Member Phillip Niedzielski-Eichner noted: “I’m impressed with the architecture. So often we see…a kind of off-the-shelf design…giving the impression of a cookie cutter. In this instance…you’ve given a lot of attention to detail, you’ve differentiated the massing—it’s a large building but you don’t have that sense. I want to commend the architect and the applicant for that work, because it does require extra effort, but when you have a building that stands out, it’s worth the effort.”
