WHOLE FOODS MARKET | Recently Completed Projects

As a follow-up to last month’s issue on our longstanding relationship with Whole Foods Market, we thought we might share some images from two of our most recently completed WFM projects.

The Parks at Walter Reed | Washington, DC

The Parks at Walter Reed is the reimagined, mixed-use community now emerging within the scenic campus of the old Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The campus was closed over a decade ago but was designated an historic district in 2014. Over two thousand new dwelling units are expected to be delivered as part of the campus re-development and it is one of the most anticipated and closely watched projects in the District.

Within this context, Whole Foods Market was a perfect anchor tenant for The Hartley, a 323-unit apartment building at the heart of the new development. At 47,000 SF the store is larger than most WFM stores. Taking cues from the building’s layered material palette, the interior design has a rich but understated  quality that is open, airy, warm and welcoming.

We are pleased and proud to participate in the shaping of this awesome, emerging community!

Springfield Plaza | Springfield, VA

After serving the Springfield community for over 25 years, Whole Foods Market has moved to a new location at Springfield Plaza in Northern Virginia. The new store effectively doubles the size of the previous location at nearly 50,000 square feet, allowing Whole Foods to provide a wider array of products including local purveyors.

The store’s design is a tribute to this DC bedroom community with an expansive feel and a modern, refined approach that is a pleasant oasis within the hustle and bustle experienced by young families in this popular community. Neutral and warm wood tones, splashes of blue and terracotta, along with a playful approach to a classic aesthetic is intended to make this new Whole Foods Market Springfield’s new home away from home for the next 25 years.

Yet another great example of how meaningful collaboration with a valued, long-time client can yield a successful, transformative project!
