PROJECT UPDATE: Liberty East | Pittsburgh, PA
East Liberty, five miles east of downtown Pittsburgh, was Pennsylvania’s third‑largest shopping district in the 1940s and 1950s, popularly referred to as the “Second Downtown.” Emerging from the decline of the 1970s, it is quickly establishing its position as the center of technology, culture, and lifestyle in Pittsburgh.
MV+A’s Liberty East project, a 9-acre masterplan, features a variety of uses including a grocery store anchor, high‑end consumer retail, office, and multifamily apartments—all planned to integrate with the rich urban tapestry historically prevalent in East Liberty.
Liberty East Phase 1, nearing completion features a Whole Foods Market [also by mv+a], in-line retail and more than 250,000 SF of class A office and is slated for LEED Silver. The building incorporates numerous energy efficiency and health + wellness features including high-performance glazing and daylighting, enhanced air filtration and climate controls, e-charging stations and bike storage facilities, as well as numerous tenant amenities like a full fitness center, multiple terraces with green-space views and a sizable green roof.
PROJECT UPDATE: Broad + Washington | Falls Church, VA
MV+A’s Broad + Washington project, located in the heart of Falls Church, will bring a vibrant and dynamic new energy to the town vis-à-vis a major public plaza and green space that will support a mix of retail and cultural programs—including the celebrated Creative Cauldron theater group.
A mixed-use, residential development, the project includes 300 residential units—10% of which will be affordable, a new Whole Foods Market along with 8,500 SF of streel level retail. The project was met with unanimous approval by the Falls Church City Council [FCCC] in January of 2021 and officially broke ground on April 29, 2022.
